Ailsa Street, Lochnagar Street and Bromley Hall Road are the site of one of the last remaining brownfield sites used for waste disposal, scrap yards and the breaking down of vehicle parts. This mostly forgotten piece of
post-industrial wasteland next to the River Lea in Poplar, London has laid unused for many years. Area became isolated from Poplar when the dual-carriageway A12 was constructed as part of the London Ringways plan of the 1960s. Once cut-off from the surrounding urban infrastructure, the site has become increasingly occupied by scrap dealers, refuse recycling and fly tippers. Altough the site is a great example of dereliction and decay the street layout from the era of terraced housing on the site remains. These appear to be cobbled streets overlayed with asphalt. In recent years the site was identified to provide housing development, primary school and other residential facilities. My photos of the site were taken between 2016 and 2020 before the site was fenced off due to demolition of existing structures and the redevelopment of the site.
